On August 20th, 2025, a new central registry (ICANN) policies will go into effect, according to the new Registration Data Policy (RDP). These will apply to the administration of owner's contact details for generic domains. Generic domains are .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info, .name + all new generic domains (new gTLDs).
These changes will affect the way in which domain owner information (name, email address, etc.) is obtained, used and shared. At the same time, privacy protection will be improved, transparency will be strengthened and compliance with global regulations will be enhanced.
What specific changes will be made?
- you may receive an email from Tucows/OpenSrs regarding verification of the domain owner's contact details
- some contact details will be no longer publicly visible in the WHOIS database
- additional measures will be introduced to secure and manage domain contacts
When do I need to update my contact details?
- contact details are outdated and incorrect
- it is necessary to update contact details in the customer administration in which the domain is listed
- request an update in the central registry by sending an authorized ticket
- your name is listed in the organization field, even if your contact is a non-entrepreneur (natural person)
- previously, it was not possible to register a domain without specifying an organisation
- in the case of natural person, the name and surname were automatically filled in as the name of the organisation
- it is necessary to check this out and if necessary, to update the contact details in the customer administration
- request an update in the central registry by sending an authorized ticket

Afterwards, we will initiate an update in the central registry. In most cases, confirmation will be required via a link that will be sent to the owner's contact email.
In some cases, the change will be classified as a change of the owner. In this case, a confirmation link will be firstly sent to the new owner's contact email and then to the current owner´s contact email. This will also includes domains for which the contact details are identical, but only the organisation name is being removed.
More information regarding the confirmation can be found here:

Only the policy has changed and now it is possible to register generic domains to the contact of a non-business person. This was not possible in the past, and the name of the owner was automatically added to the organization.
This does not apply to domains where a change of the ownership will actually be initiated (change of organization, contact person, email address).
