Android calendar synchronization

CalDAV provides full access to calendar data (read, modify, delete). To set it up, you need to activate calendar synchronization in webmail, install the DAVx⁵ (paid) or OpenSync (for older versions of Android) plugin, and add the calendar account to your mobile device.

1. Activation synchronization in webmail

Login into the webmail and go to the calendar

In the left menu, select Synchronization (1.)

Click on the tab Sync with CalDAV (2.)

Use the checkbox to select the calendar (3) to synchronize. You can also check multiple calendars (3a).

To get the information you need to set up your Android calendar account, click

2. Adding an address book and calendar in DAVx⁵
Download application from Google Play and install it.

Launch the application and click on the + Create account in the bottom right corner.

Select Login with URL and user name and continue the wizard.

Continue with entering URL and credentials
- Email address,
- mailbox password

Click on the LOGIN button to verify the credentials you entered.

On the following page, enter an account name and click Create Account to exit the wizard.

After adding the account, both the synchronization of webmail contacts and calendars (if they were selected in step 1) will work. In the following steps, select only the data sources you want to synchronize.

On the CALDAV tab, select the calendars you want to sync.

On the CARDDAV tab, select the address book folders you want to sync.

Tap the gear icon in the top right corner to adjust the synchronization settings - select the preferred synchronization interval for events and contacts

3. Calendar display settings
By default, Google Calendar may not show calendars from untrusted accounts (= regular CalDAV accounts other than Google).

Go to your calendar account settings > hamburger menu > Settings > Manage accounts

If the calendar is not selected, select it.

Note
Google Calendar does not support some features of other providers' calendars, such as appointment scheduling. While you can add a meeting with multiple attendees, the Android device will not send an invitation (even if you have an email account added to your device - here jan@zizkovsky.cz).
