What is a service "monitoring ICMP ping"?

This is an additional utility used for testing server´s funcionality - monitoring it with ICMP ping every five minutes.

If a server doesn´t answer to ICMP ping, our monitoring system sends a message to the contact email. Based on this message, the customer/server administrator can contact our customer support with request to reboot his server or to examine the problem, in case the reboot didn´t help.
